Event Description

Surrey History Centre is creating an interactive WW2 bomb map for Surrey. This is ‘1945 Surrey’ and so many south London boroughs and Districts, including modern LB Sutton, are included.

The results in some cases have been quite surprising and not what many people think happened at the time. Your chance of surviving a bombing was high; damage was not a bad as many think; and nearly half of all flying bombs did not dive down but glided down.
In many cases it was “Britain’s finest hour” and we stoically endured The Blitz and the Doodlebugs.
Martin’s talk will highlight many of the findings of this 2+ year project that is now over half way through. www.exploringsurreyspast.org.uk/bombsites
