Event Description

Join award-winning novelist Jacqueline Crooks for an interactive talk on the style, identity and cultural legacy of the Windrush Generation. Inspired by her novel Fire Rush and lived experience, Jacqueline explores fashion as a language of dignity, resistance and belonging, and how Caribbean migrants shaped British culture through personal style, tailoring and sound system fashion.

Guests are encouraged to wear memorable outfits and share stories of personal style.

Jacqueline Crooks is a Jamaican-born British writer and community development practitioner whose work explores migration, resistance and subcultures. Her debut novel, Fire Rush, centred on dub reggae, love and Black womanhood, won the 2024 PEN America Open Book Award and the Paul Torday Prize, and was shortlisted for major literary awards. Her collection The Ice Migration was longlisted for the 2019 Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.
