Event Description

Can artificial intelligence really judge a book by its cover?

Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop exploring how AI learns to recognise patterns. Using Google’s Teachable Machine, we’ll look at what artificial intelligence is, how it is trained, and why the examples we give it matter.

Participants will first help train a quick AI model using plushies, testing whether the computer can learn to tell them apart. Then we’ll move on to the main challenge: teaching an AI model to classify book covers by broad visual themes, such as animals, space, fantasy, mystery, nature or food.

Along the way, we’ll explore what the AI gets right, what it gets wrong, and whether it is really “understanding” the books or simply spotting visual clues.

This beginner-friendly session is suitable for anyone curious about AI, books, technology and how computers learn. No coding experience needed.
