Event Description

Part of our Getting Started with AI workshop cycle.

Step into the world of historic postcards and discover how artificial intelligence can help us explore the past. In this interactive workshop, you will visit our postcard exhibition and try using AI tools to scan and interpret handwritten messages from original postcards in the archive.

Can AI really read century old handwriting? Sometimes yes… sometimes hilariously no. As you experiment, you will uncover the stories behind these fragments of everyday life while also learning about the possibilities and the limits of AI.

This relaxed, hands on session is a playful introduction to AI, perfect for the curious and the cautious alike. No technical experience needed. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to look closely at history.
You will:
 - Explore historic postcards from the archive exhibition
 - Try AI handwriting recognition on real examples
 - Compare AI interpretations with human reading
 - Discover why AI results should not always be taken at face value

A fun, thought provoking way to engage with local history and emerging technology.
